The political secretary and MEP of Podemos, Irene Montero, has ruled out that her party will join Frente Amplio, while she has claimed that the agreement sealed with the spokesperson of ERC in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, remains available for other political forces to join.
"We are going to keep talking and trying all forms of collaboration," she stated in an interview on "TVE," reported by Europa Press, in which she indicated that progressive people "are asking for agreements" among different groups, seeking "points in common and ways of cooperation."
"And that is what we are doing," insisted the Podemos leader, who also reiterated her defense of primaries as "the best way to reach agreements" against the "infinite loop" that "leads nowhere."
In this line, Montero has highlighted the pact with ERC that they will continue to work on and which, as she explained, "is open for anyone who wants to join." "Just because things are not done the way some people would like does not mean they are not done with the best intentions," she warned.
CONTINUE WORKING TO REPRESENT THE LEFT
Earlier, in another interview on "Cadena Ser," Montero defended her party's alliance with ERC as a candidacy that represents "that leftist majority" and avoided commenting on the "open door" offered by Frente Amplio to join the confluence with Movimiento Sumar, Comuns, Más Madrid, and Izquierda Unida. "I prefer my silence because I believe it is what can best contribute to things going well," she stated.
In this context, she noted that Podemos will "contribute" to the ERC candidacy and will make "a team" with Gabriel Rufián "across the entire territory" for the general elections.
The leader of the purple formation emphasized that the space she forms with Rufián is open for other parties, such as those from Frente Amplio, to join, and defended that progressive people were asking for a "framework of collaboration among different groups" that has been achieved with the alliance with ERC. "We must continue working so that many more people are there and so that this candidacy represents that leftist majority," she added.
