The political secretary and MEP of Podemos, Irene Montero, has claimed the coalition of her party with ERC as a candidacy that embodies "that left-wing majority" and has chosen not to assess the "open door" of Frente Amplio to integrate into the confluence with Movimiento Sumar, Comuns, Más Madrid, and Izquierda Unida. "I prefer my silence because I believe it is what can best contribute to things going well," she emphasized.
In an interview on "Cadena Ser," reported by Europa Press, Montero explained that Podemos is going to "contribute" to the candidacy of ERC and will form a "team" with Gabriel Rufián "across the territory" for the upcoming general elections.
The leader of the purple formation has stressed that the space she shares with Rufián remains open to the incorporation of other forces, including those of Frente Amplio, and has highlighted that the progressive electorate demanded a "framework of collaboration among different" that, in her opinion, has materialized with the agreement with ERC. "We must continue working so that many more people are there and so that this candidacy represents that left-wing majority," she underlined.
Regarding the "open door" to join Frente Amplio, Montero has declined to give a direct answer by pointing out that this type of debate "makes her uncomfortable." "I don't want to respond and continue in the infinite loop," she added, subsequently recalling Podemos' stance on the future of the Spanish left, which, she noted, must be articulated through primaries.
After that, she urged to wait to be able to "count" when "things are done" because "there are always conversations," referring to the contacts for the unity of the left, and has asked "not to be talking permanently in an infinite loop that makes everyone uncomfortable."
