The parties that make up the Frente Amplio --Más Madrid, Comuns, Movimiento Sumar, and Izquierda Unida-- have reached an agreement for the deputy spokesperson of Más Madrid in the Assembly of the Community, Emilio Delgado, to lead the candidacy for Madrid in the general elections on the upcoming November 29.
"The four organizations thus reinforce their commitment to a united, plural, and rooted candidacy in the territory, capable of offering a progressive alternative for the future of the country," they stated in a note released this Tuesday.
The decision is known a day after the name of Ada Colau was made public as the candidate of the Frente Amplio for the presidency of the Government, without yet specifying which constituency she will run in, although the movement around Delgado suggests that Colau will head the list for Barcelona.
In this line, the Frente Amplio emphasizes that this movement represents a "bet" to build "an alternative that speaks of the real problems of the people." "Of how to make ends meet, of how to access housing, and of how to ensure that everyone can live with dignity."
For this reason, they emphasize that the list for Madrid "must serve to improve the living conditions of the social majority," and that the choice of Delgado is "a reflection of the plurality that gives meaning to the Frente Amplio" and "constitutes an important step in that direction" that "reaffirms the willingness of the four organizations to act with responsibility, generosity, and vision for the future."
These statements come after this Sunday the spokesperson for Esquerra Republicana in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, confirmed that he will repeat as head of the list for ERC in Barcelona, clearing up the uncertainties about a possible leadership in the Frente Amplio, which will ultimately fall to Colau.
At the same time, Podemos announced this Monday an agreement with the republicans to run jointly in Catalonia and for Rufián to collaborate with Irene Montero --the purple party's candidate on November 29-- in the rest of the country during the campaign.
