El Ejido, under red alert for torrential rains
Aemet has established the red alert until 5:00 PM this Saturday in the area of El Ejido, where precipitation can reach 60 liters per square meter in one hour. The red level represents the highest degree of danger contemplated in the meteorological warning system.
The rains have already left significant accumulations in the Poniente almeriense. According to data from the Southeast Meteorological Network (Ametse), collected by La Voz de Almería, El Ejido has exceeded 75 liters per square meter during the day.
Once the initially planned period for the red alert has ended, the area will remain under orange alert until midnight, according to the meteorological information released during the afternoon.
Orange and yellow alerts in the rest of Almería
The episode of rains associated with the dana Adam also affects other regions of the province. Aemet maintains the orange alert in the Poniente, the Levante almeriense, and Almería capital, with forecasts of up to 100 liters per square meter in twelve hours and 30 liters in one hour.
For its part, the Valle del Almanzora, Los Vélez, Nacimiento, and Campo de Tabernas are under yellow alerts for rains and storms, which could be accompanied by hail. In these areas, accumulations of up to 20 liters per square meter in one hour are expected.
The precipitation has begun to be recorded in different points of the province since the early hours of the day, although its intensity varies considerably between municipalities.
Emergencies urges not to cross flooded streams or roads
The Junta de Andalucía recommends avoiding unnecessary travel and not crossing roads, dry riverbeds, streams, or flooded channels, even if the water level appears to be low.
The Emergency Agency warns that the channels can experience sudden rises and reminds that it is also not safe to park vehicles or remain nearby during an episode of intense rains.
In case water begins to enter a home, it is recommended to seek upper floors and avoid basements and garages. The population must follow the instructions of the authorities and stay informed through official channels.
The ES-Alert system allows sending Civil Protection warnings directly to mobile phones located in a specific area, without the need to install an application. The messages include recommendations to reduce exposure to danger.
In any emergency situation, the Board reminds that one must call 112 Andalucía, available free of charge 24 hours a day.
