An Italian tourist of 44 years old has been injured after being run over by a tourist train that started to move when it was parked and without passengers in the vicinity of the Alcázar de Toledo.
The vehicle moved uncontrollably down a slope in the historic area until it reached the surroundings of calle Unión, where it became partially suspended after colliding with a drop. According to initial investigations, a possible technical failure could be behind the incident.
The train started to move when it was parked
The convoy was empty and stopped when, for reasons that are still being investigated, it began to move downhill from Cuesta de Capuchinos.
During the journey, the tourist train ran over the tourist, who suffered an open fracture of the tibia and fibula. The medical services dispatched to the scene later transferred the injured person to the University Hospital of Toledo.
The vehicle got stuck next to a drop
The train continued its journey until it reached a drop at the end of calle Unión. The locomotive was in a compromised position, partially suspended over a space located under the wall.
The incident forced the Firefighters to intervene, who came to remove and tow the vehicle, while agents from the Local Police and the National Police established temporary traffic cuts in the area.
The Police investigates a possible technical failure
The initial inquiries point to a possible failure in the braking system as one of the hypotheses being studied, although the exact cause has not yet been determined.
The Police have opened an investigation to clarify how the train was able to start moving without a driver and without control and to determine the circumstances that caused the run-over.
For the moment, the injured person remains under medical attention after the accident that occurred in one of the main tourist spots of the historic center of Toledo.
