At least six people have lost their lives and around a dozen have been injured in a series of attacks launched by the Russian Army against the Ukrainian region of Dnipropetrovsk, in the east of the country, during the early hours of this Saturday, shortly after the temporary ceasefire decreed by Kiev on the occasion of the visit of a U.S. delegation to resume peace talks.
According to the information provided by the regional governor, Oleksandr Hanzha, Russian forces have used missiles, drones, and artillery against various points in the area. In the town of Kamianske, these attacks have resulted in the death of five people and have left another five injured.
Hanzha specified that an industrial facility was hit hours before Ukrainian forces alerted that Russian ballistic missiles were heading towards that same town, which increased tension in the area.
In a second attack within the same region, at least one person has died after the impact against a gas station in the city of Dnipro. Another five people have been injured and have had to be transferred to hospital centers, the governor later added.
"One man is in serious condition and another in extremely serious condition. Medical services are providing them with the necessary assistance," he detailed.
This new spike in violence has occurred after Ukraine ordered its troops to respect a temporary ceasefire while U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner traveled to Kiev and Moscow with the aim of reactivating peace negotiations. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also stated that the country would refrain from attacking Russian territory during the course of these talks.
Despite Kiev avoiding striking refineries and other strategic infrastructures in Russia during the night, air raid sirens have sounded again in numerous Ukrainian cities, according to "The Kyiv Independent." In the capital and in the neighboring regions, bombings have destroyed a residential building, causing at least two injuries.
The Ukrainian authorities have been denouncing a military escalation by Moscow for some time, which seeks to consolidate what it considers its advantage on the front before sitting down to negotiate the end of hostilities. In response, Ukrainian forces have intensified their drone attacks against targets in Russian territory in recent weeks, with the intention that the direct impact of the war is also felt within Russia.
