The oneworld alliance, which includes airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, or Qatar Airways, has launched a digital check-in system for its entire global network. This tool allows travelers to scan their passport, obtain their boarding passes, and store them in a single mobile application, according to the organization.

The new technological solution will be available for all flights operated by member airlines included in the same itinerary, regardless of which is the first company to operate the route.

"Customers expect a consistent and easy-to-use experience with the check-in tools of their preferred airline, and they should expect the same when flying with their alliance partners," said the CEO of oneworld, Ole Orver.

As an example, the case of a passenger from American Airlines traveling from Kuala Lumpur to Dallas via Tokyo is cited, first with Malaysia Airlines and then with American Airlines. The user will be able to complete a single check-in in the American Airlines app, which includes passport scanning, while the boarding passes with the branding of the operating airline, in this case Malaysia Airlines and American Airlines, are generated for each segment and can be stored in their digital wallet.

In this way, the passenger can go directly to the baggage drop-off counter or security control, without needing to go through the airport check-in counter first.

In later phases, the project plans to incorporate check-in on itineraries with codeshare flights, as well as dynamic boarding passes with minute-by-minute updated information.

Currently, oneworld is made up of 15 airlines that connect to nearly 1,000 destinations worldwide: Alaska Airlines/Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, and SriLankan Airlines.
